Simon Werkendam, is specialist in positioning, personal coaching and
online marketing. He started his career at retail giant Vendex and later
joined Young & Rubicam Advertising where he worked for 20 years.
He started at Y&R Netherlands, continued in New York at
Y&R’s global HQ, returned to Amsterdam and founded the
Y&R agency BBCW as Managing Partner Strategy.
BBCW became one of the most rewarded and successful Dutch
agencies in the 1990’s.
In 2000 when Y&R went public, he sold his shares in BBCW
and took a sabbatical. During his travels he fell in love with
Slow Food and the Slow Movement. Consequently he founded
Slow World: a unique combination of advertising agency and
cooking studio. Invited by Mr. Carlo Petrini, the President of
Slow Food international, he started the Slow Food Convivium
in Haarlem, his hometown.
Simon is a leading expert in sustainable product and brand
development. His work focuses on human attitudes and how
they can be used to create a beneficial relationship between
brand and consumer. He guides his clients towards a
continuous proces of improvement with higher margins as
reward. His work is helping companies find a goal and
purpose in an increasingly chaotic marketing landscape.
He has worked for ABN-AMRO, Achmea, BASF, Braun,
Rank Xerox,Heinz, Delta Lloyd, HAG/General Foods, Campari,
Campina Melkunie, Hans Anders, Metro-MCC, Wehkamp
and many others.
With Zeal Simon is helping entrepreneurs bring
more profit and a human touch to their business.
He is involved in a variety of start-ups, scale-ups and facilitates
(re)positioning processes for online brands. His involvement is a guarantee
for good and effective creative work as he motivates and
pushes creative teams and stakeholders to go beyond their limits.
Simon is since 2002 a board member of MS Research, the
international acknowledged foundation abetting scientific
research in search of a multiple sclerosis treatment.
